Better late than never! Pics from Machynlleth

Apologies....Kamikase gave me this disk ages ago and I've only just got around to posting them. Check out the Welsh rain...and Timotei (I think it's Timotei..) doing a downhill on Mars. See the photos page.
Saturday 15th December 2007    Sustrans Success!!    Following our many Appeals/Reminders/Threats to bashers, you will be pleased to know that Sustrans won the peoples50Million lottery grant by a good margin. I'm told that they polled 42% of the total vote...more than twice as many votes as their nearest competitor...(A greenhouse in cornwall!) Thanks to everyone who voted. We look forward to seeing lots more cycle trails and routes in Devon and beyond.
Saturday 8th December 2007    Sustrans Lottery Funding Bid    The Bash website has been overwhelmed by 3 or 4 emails from concerned bashers anxious for us all to vote in favour of the Sustrans Lottery Funding Bid. Phrases like "sleeping with the fishes" and "an offer you can't refuse" have occurred!

So.....If you haven't already responded to the first appeal we made in October on behalf of Trotski, or the second appeal we made recently on behalf of KitKat and Emma Osborne, Vote for sustrans in the Peoples50million lottery grant. Phone number is 0870 2424602. (Maximum call charge 10p from a BT landline, calls from mobiles and other operators may be higher.)

You can only vote once from each phone number, but the whole family can vote by using their mobiles!

You can also vote online at www.thepeoples50million.org.uk. Voting closes on the 10th Dec so bashers get phones dinging and mice clicking ASAP
Monday 3rd December 2007    Malaga!    There are a few pics on the photos page, courtesy of Faggots, of the intrepid souls who ventured to Malaga last month with Timotei....They look exhausted...! Cycling or drinking I wonder....
Sunday 2nd December 2007    Xmas Bash.....Only a few tickets left now!    The Xmas Bash is now almost fully subscribed.....If you would like tickets...see Mudsie soonest!
Friday 30th November 2007    Heresy    An email has been received from a basher who shall not be named....."I have been asked if the bash could put a link for a local MTB event on our website. The people running it are ex Royal Marines and one of their aims is to assist in some manner to the upkeep of Woodbury Common. The date of the event happens to be on the same day as Xmas bash but with only a few numbers going to the bash some may want to partake in this, or people outside of the bash who look at our website may want to have a go. www.bictontrailblazer.com is the link and any publicity for the event would be welcomed. Please can I ask you to word this as you see fit for the website." Of course, any basher who attends this event will be hanged, drawn, quartered, flogged, boiled alive and made to listen to "Girls Aloud" before the real punishment begins.....Your Choice!

Votes for women!

Kitkat and Emma Osborne (Who came bashing a few times with us, and is now a Sustrans Bike-It officer in Exeter) would like us to vote for Sustrans obtaining shed-loads of money from the National Lottery, so that we can have lots of bike trails and Emma can keep her job, maybe have a raise and buy a new bike and a camper-van !!

Visit www.thepeoples50million.org.uk to vote. Make two women happy!
Sunday 25th November 2007    Instant Photos    We Have some photos from todays ride at Newton Poppleford..Courtesy of Kamikaze. View them on the Photos page
Sunday 25th November 2007    Urgent! Christmas is Coming!!!!    We have about 40 Bashers signed up for the Christmas bash so far.... but more are needed to make the event pay for itself....It's only three weeks away...so hurry and get your tickets, or there is a possibility that Christmas will have to be cancelled!!!!....That would never do...
Unda expressed the situation in a more colourful way...

Sunday 4th November 2007    Words November - December 2007

The current rides programme takes us past Christmas and into 2008. Attendances during October have been like old times for the "31 Club" on Thursday nights and after a poor start we finished off the month with lots of Bashers on the Sunday rides too.

By now you should all have paid your TVPB subs which were due on 1st July - if not you now owe £12 for the current year. The subscription costs are so small, compared to the benefits on offer, they must apply to everyone. Mustang Sally is our principal tax collector along with Aunt Sally. Once again Mustang has done a great job - we have 90 plus paid up bashers. Please continue to pay promptly to make their jobs as easy as possible.

Tonto our "Scout Mistress" and "Bash Type" is another female basher doing an excellent job that is made easier when people freely volunteer to organise rides and at the same time elect the pub or venue they intend to ride from. Remember that we need both off and on road trails. If you haven't been Scout Basher recently please think about planning a ride early in 2008. If you've never organised a bash ride then you won't have a bash handle - the only way to get "Christened" is to set a ride. If you're not sure about doing this please ask an experienced basher for guidance.

Important considerations for the venue are the price and variety of real ales and wine on offer, location and parking. Smaller, traditional pubs are generally more suited to our needs. If the landlord can be persuaded to provide us with simple free snacks (chips, roasties, simple sandwiches etc) so much the better. However I must emphasise that "free food" MUST NOT be thought of essential for every bash ride. Neither are Scout Bashers expected to provide or pay for food themselves. If you've got a problem in this respect please speak to one of the committee before committing the Bash to any expense.

Rides and events to take note of - the Christmas Party and fancy dress ride on Sunday 16 December at the Starcross Fishing and Cruising Club. Ticket only event - £10. Secondly the TVPB 2007 Awards and Oscars Ceremony will take place on Sunday 27 January 2008. The venue will probably be the Welcome Inn @ Dawlish Warren and will feature the usual excellent carvery meal for about £4 a head. - Unless somebody can come up with something better or similar.

Lastly, but demanding your prompt attention is the 2008 Tour which will be in Italy - Saturday 17 May to Sunday 25 May - 8 nights, flying from Bristol to Nice. Full details are available on the flyer to be found the website, or ask Timotei. You will need to book fights mid to late November on day of release of the best prices so you can enjoy another tremendous Timotei tour. Only 30 places maximum.

Ride on

Pottsie

Tuesday 23rd October 2007    Vote for Trotski! (See below ... text of letter from CTC)
Dear All,
I write to urge your support for Connect2, a bid put in by Sustrans (the sustainable transport charity) to the Big Lottery Fund. Connect2 is all about providing new pedestrian and cycling links that overcome physical barriers such as a river, railway or busy road. There are 79 proposed schemes nationwide. These schemes have in most cases already reached an advanced stage of design and approval and are waiting for the money to implement them. Connect2 is one of 4 projects competing for a single grant of up to £50 million from The Big Lottery Fund "Living Landmarks : The People's Millions". The winning project will be decided by a public vote on TV in Dec. 2007 . Connect2 has a good chance of winning the money being the only nationwide project, but only if we all vote. Devon has 2 schemes out of the 79, one in Newton Abbot and one in Ottery St. Mary. There is a reserve scheme near Bovey Tracey. For details of the schemes go onto their website www.sustransconnect2.org.uk. On the website you can also register your interest and you will then automatically receive updates by email or text, plus a reminder to vote.
Please support this and get all your friends to vote too. Thanks.

Jackie Brodie

PS. I am not a closet CTC member, I did go on a few family rides with the girls over the years but could never quite bring myself to become a member. Trotski

Still...they're all pictures of drunken cyclists...what the hell! Get in the cyber-queue before it's too late!

Sunday 5th August 2007    Updates    There will be a ride from the Teign House Inn on the 26th August. Trucker will be scout basher and has kindly offered the use of his field for any bashers who would like to camp on the Friday and Saturday nights. There are one or two pubs in the valley, so there's just a chance that a few beers may be consumed. The word on the street is that there will be a BBQ on Sat night too! Call Trucker for details on 01626 852201.
There are now a couple of pics of the Dorset weekend, and a few of the trip to Morzine on the Photos page. Also a few pics of Timotei and Angela's lightning cycling tour of the sights of Paris.
Thursday August 2nd 2007    Angela's Scottish Weekend    You can now download the flyer for Angela's Scottish weekend in .pdf format. Click here......now!
Tuesday 31st July 2007    Important message from Mustang & Dodgy    I am really sorry, but we are going to have to cancel the planned camping weekend at the Teign House due to restrictions imposed by the Dartmoor National Trust. The Teign House is only allowed 5 units on the site at any one time and have been written to recently threatening to withdraw their current licence if they receive any further reports of non compliance. Obviously, Pete the landlord does not want to take any chances. We have tried to disguise it as a rally, but we don't have the necessary licence. Angela is organsing a mini tour to Scotland during the same weekend, so the cancellation of this event may encourage others to support that trip and will hopefully give people enough time to arrange.
Should anybody wish to organise an alternative ride on the Sunday, in addition to the Scotland trip please feel free.

Thursday 26th July 2007    Scotland - August Bank Holiday    Hello everyone!
As some of you will know I'm organising a trip up to Scotland for the August Bank Holiday - leaving after work Thursday 23rd and returning Monday 27th.
Camping will be booked in the Rosetta campsite, Peebles. Visit www.rosettacaravanpark.co.uk for more information. The site is very close to the Glentress and Innerleithen 7Stanes trails and it looks like we'll have the use of an uplift at Innerleithen on the Saturday (those of you who got used to the lifts at Morzine have got no excuse not to come now!!).
For more information about the trails visit www.7stanes.gov.uk. There are trails for all levels and the area has a reputation for some of the best biking in the UK :-) And surely the weather will have sorted itself out by the end of August?!?
If you're interested in coming along please email me on proctor_ac@yahoo.co.uk. Let me know numbers, which nights you want tent/van pitch and, most importantly, whether you want a place booked on the uplift for Saturday (this is likely to get booked up fairly quickly so let me know as soon as possible if you're interested).
I'll post more details nearer the time but if you could let me know numbers in the mean time that would be great.
Thanks
Angela

Tuesday 24th July 2007    Commando Challenge Entry    Just a reminder for those who have said they want to do the challenge this year.
I am more than happy to get a team entered and do all the necessary admin and have an party at home after, but to get it going I need you to get your entry fees to me by the end of Jul!
Due to my shifts I can’t make it to bashes all the time but Diddy can take your money from you. If you are unable to give them to me or Diddy at a bash then post a cheque payable to me (K Johnson) if you don’t have my address then contact me or Diddy to get it. My contact details are on the website on the news page – look at Friday 13 Jul 2007. I will not enter a team until I have the money, the longer it is left the less chance we have of getting a start time of our choice.
No commando challenge = no party back at chez Dids and Jonno!
Thanks
Jonno

Thursday 19th July 2007    Faggots in Hospital    Chris Braines (Faggots) took a nasty fall last night and has ended up in hospital. Best wishes for a speedy recovery from all at the Bash.
Thursday 19th July 2007    Update to Cycle and Surf Weekend at Croyde    Hello again
There seems to be some confusion with this weekend -
It is a "weekend" camping from Friday to Sunday. I had a number of people only wanting to camp Saturday night so I had to find somewhere that would accept one-night bookings!
All the campsites in Croyde were a minimum of 2 or 3 nights and charged in excess of £25 per person plus £5 for a car so you can see that £9 per person (£18 per pitch for 2 incl car) works out shed loads cheaper for those who were moaning that it was expensive - and as usual it's the rich ones who are moaning!!!
When you arrive at the campsite we are going to be in an overflow field with no marked pitches so we can all be together!
Special request:
Everyone pray to the sun gods please
see u all at the weekend
Tim
Wednesday 18th July 2007    Update to Froggy and Wangle's ride 19th July    Meet at Car park at bottom end of Belstone village. Afterwards at the Tors Inn, Belstone
Tuesday 17th July 2007    Cycle and Surf Weekend at Croyde. Message from Timotei.    hi everybody
after lots of searching thru the web and phone calls i realised how extortionate the camping prices are in that part of the world, not only that there is a minimum of 2 or 3 nights stay!!!
Anyway i've found a place called Lobb fields on the road from Braunton to Saunton Sands - they say no need to book, just turn up!
www.lobbfields.com
most of us are going up saturday mid-morning and will be going to Saunton Sands as it's closer and bigger carpark! Not sure about evening plans yet as weather looks unsettled so bbq may not be an option - there's a pub closeby or bring ur own booze n food/bbq!
Sunday the plan is to ride from Horner national trust carpark at 11.00 - we'll be going up towards Exmoor and Horner Woods
hope to see lots of u all there
please let me know if you are intending coming
cheers you

Tuesday 17th July 2007    Ride for the Homies    For those bashers not going to North Devon this weekend there will be a "home" ride from The Lord Nelson, Kingskerswell - on + easy off road ride. Tonto.
Friday 13th July 2007    COMMANDO CHALLENGE    I have now received an entry form for this year’s event direct from the organiser.
The 3 MILE FUN RUN event is on 13th October 2007. I need to know of those bashers who want to have a laugh on Woodbury Common followed by curry/chilli and a few beers back at Diddy’s & Jonno’s.
For those of you who are interested and those who have previously mentioned in passing that you would do it, please officially tell me by email to kmj_1965@tesco.net or by text 07817 019540.
The cost of the entry is £15.00 and this has to go with the entry form. I would like to get the entry form in the post by the end of July to ensure getting a place (as last year they had to refuse entry to nearly 2000 people!) The other thing that participants need to do is to raise a minimum of £30 sponsorship to be handed in on the day of the event, sponsor forms can be downloaded from the event website www.commandochallenge.co.uk
The people that I recall being interested are:
Diddy
Anna
Mustang
Mavis
Bobby
Cinderfella
Flossie
PLEASE LET ME KNOW SOONEST IF YOU ARE STILL INTERESTED
Ta very much
Jonno
Tuesday 10th July 2007    TVPB WORDS JUNE.    THE best tour so far? Those who were lucky enough to spend a week in beautiful Lake Garda certainly seem to think so.
Thanks must go to Timotei and Buzza who spent a lot of time putting the package together - it doesn't just happen!
The weather, scenery, the 'can't do enough for you' hotel and its all night bar, the rides for all groups, and the fun were top notch. The only hiccup was the longish walk from the hotel to the campsite restaurant for the evening meal, but in true bash spirit we all had a laugh about it, well most of us, - especially when the tearful mum burst in to complain about our 'noise' disturbing the sleep of her 'bambinos'!
It was just like the old days with over 40 of us all together again, and will be a hard act to follow.

Also another pat on the back to Tim for the Cheddar weekend. Only off roaders turned up, but they were treated to some excellent cross country trails, and a couple of new tricky, but exhilarating down hill single tracks. And we also had good entertainment from the late night 'domestic' in a certain tent!

And a big thanks to Flossie and Blaster for their generous hospitality over the '100th birthday' weekend. Those who braved the weather to turn up for the Sunday ride, later enjoyed top nosh, including scallops and steak, and free booze, in the modest marquee on the lawn.

Now we need everybody to rally around and support the Devon Bash at Minehead over the weekend of August 17 - 19.
As usual, the entry forms are a bit tardy in coming in. But we cannot firm up the arrangements for camping, meals, a live band, rides etc, unless we have money up front, a mere £35 a head all-in, in plenty of time.
Unless we get 80 registrations by July 14, the bash will have to be cancelled, or severely curtailed. At the time of writing we only had 43, plus two children.
It's a great deal for the money, and some different and varied new territory to explore, both on and off road. And just for Fallen Woman we have laid on a special karaoke and bingo night at nearby Butlins. (But it's not compulsory!) Register soonest with Sticky Dicky, please.

And another reminder - subs of £10 per-person (How much?) were due on July 1. The two Sallys - Mustang and Aunt - will be politely approaching you all, so please be ready for cash or cheques. Probably the best value of any club in the country - two organised rides a week, free food from pubs, away weekends, insurance cover, and the companionship and banter with interesting, witty, well adjusted, intellectually stimulating, civilised, like-minded folk! Or is that the CTC?

Nobody has yet come forward with a new venue for the Christmas party, so the default venues will be either the Starcross Fishing and Cruising Club, or the Abbrook Centre at Kingsteignton. If anybody can suggest and help organise a 'do' at a location that meets all the criteria, please tell Pottsie.
Fallen Woman has already pledged to sort out 'a really, really wonderful' live band she heard recently, but she was pissed at the time!

Brownie points also to Binliner for the super TVPB 'business' cards. A great idea, and well laid out and designed.

Despite the best efforts of a few of our more bolshie bashers, new riders just keep on turning up. And a few even come back again.
Several have been allocated bash names recently, including Malcolm McHendry (Hippie); Richard Boss (Ugo); Alan Edwards (Ego), and Gary (Gary Litter)

Injuries seem to be taking their toll lately, especially among the headbangers. Are they getting too adventurous, or is it just an age thing?
The latest on the casualty list are Ken The Rave, who has had bones pinned in his arm, after a nasty spill at Blandford Forum.
Froggie also crushed a finger at the same venue, and Brains wrenched his shoulder after slamming into a tree in Wales, despite full body armour. The pair are managing to ride on, but for poor Ken it means a couple of months off the bike.
Nice to see an earlier casualty, Squealer, back in pedalling action after her shoulder mishap in Scotland. And Scrubber is making good progress after arm surgery.

The camper van brigade seems to be swelling. Mind you, it is much more comfortable than a tent.
Latest to join the elite are Snakebite and Dusty, with their award winning Adria Twin. It's a beauty, but where's all the money coming from!
Cobbler and Blow Job turned up to Blaster's birthday do in a smart camper, but it was only borrowed. Bit embarrassing then to f...-up the awning while winding it out. Perhaps they just aren't cut out for the life.
These palaces on wheels are now becoming so popular, we're thinking of starting a special camping car section. Who's next?

A couple more diary dates. Cranks are holding their 12th birthday bash at Soudley in the Forest of Dean over September 28 - 30. The usual format of boozing, eating, partying, oh and some cycling around the forest.
Cost is £55 all in, including camping, and full details and a registration form are on www.thecranks.co.uk or call 01453 547808.
The likely venue for next year's Nash Bash is in Wales at the Talybont Outdoor Centre, near Brecon.
Hobo's Backbackers are the hosts, over July 25-27 in 2008. Dormitory style accommodation plus camping. Full details and costs yet to be fixed, but they would appreciate an expression of interest to see if it is worth progressing.
Contact Tony Frost on anthony.frost1@virgin.net

Froggies ride on Thursday, July 19, will be from the Abbeyford Woods car park at Okehampton, with the pub venue to be announced on the evening. The off-road route will be both cross country and semi-tech, and if enough roadies turn up, a Tarmac route could also be provided.

Tuesday 3rd July 2007    Happy Birthdays to Blaster and Flossie.    Thanks to Blaster and Flossie for organising a great birthday party. Good food, good company, great band...(you can always tell a good band by what happens in a crisis....everyone was dancin'...the generator packed up... we were all left in the dark....The drummer kept goin'....played a cool solo by the light of a mobile phone 'till the power came back up!) The only fly in the ointment was that it was a little damp for the start of the ride on Sunday. Maybe a little networking with GOD would be useful to keep the rain off for the 102nd!!

A Message from Posty re Nashbash 2008

Hi y'all Here it is - finally the 2008 Nash bash committee have eventually got off their butts and found a site for next years Nash bash - this is just an intial mail out to let you know where and when - more info soon
Yes, from an Idea by Hosepipe of Hobo's backpackers, I stupidly agreed to promote the idea at NB 2006 Marlborough, and you lot must have been more drunk than I was, because you voted in NB 2008 to Wales, so it's your own fault!
Date : 25th - 27th July 2008
Venue - Talybont Outdoor Centre, Talybont-on Usk (near Brecon)
Talybont is a small village in the Brecon Beacons with some great trails around (and pubs too) - we'll probably do both on and off road trails if theres a demand for that - info on this will be on the rego form when it comes out. It is situated between Abergavenny and Brecon, just off the A40, so easy to find and get to.
The Outdoor centre has dormitory style accomodation for approx 35 people, plus surrounding grounds for camping.
There will be some space available for those wanting to bring camper vans too (hey, I'm hoping to have one myself by then!)
It also has plenty of toilets and showers available to all during the weekend To make things simpler for both us and the centre, it will be same price for both camping or dormitory, so It's first come first served for this if you want it.
Catering will be a mix of local pubs and on site grub
More info will be sent out once the committee have a chance to get together for a natter - please indicate your interest with a quick reply for now to anthony.frost1@virgin.net
Here's mud in your cassette
PS Thanks again to Soreass bash for laying on a great NB 2006 - hope we can do as well, and give you a great weekend's bashing and boozing!
PPS - please pass this on to any bashers you know who are not on this e mail

(Quorn Unfit All-Terrain Flab Fighters) are also cyclists and drinkers, and count among their number, members who go by the names of "Diorrhoea" and "Enema". They should fit right in down here! They're organising a bike/canal boat weekend for April next year (Link to flyer on their website) and will be doing the Plymouth to Ilfracombe Coast-to-Coast in May next year. If you would like to have a look at their website, it can be found at http://homepage.ntlworld.com/clh3/QUAFFIndex.html or email Blow (Mr Ade Snow) at quaff.h3@ntlworld.com

Friday 11th May 2007    Rubber's Ride on 27th May. A suggestion from Uzzi    If you think it's a bit of a long trip to East Prawle for one ride, why not make a weekend of it? - especially since the Monday is a bank holiday.
There is camp site but a couple of hundred metres from the front door of the wonderful Pigs Nose pub (great atmosphere and good beer). It is a simple field with fabulous views out to sea. Facilities stretch to a portaloo and cold running water : there are showers for campers use in the pub. Uzzi's going to be down there with a bunch of mates anyway. Folks are welcome to join them. The site is called Sally Trip's Field and people should ring 01548 511229 to book if they're coming. Costs between £3 and £6 a night depending on number of people and size of tent.

This Thursday, there will be both on and off-road rides. Timotei will lead the off-road from the Great Western Hotel. Easyish but nice flowing in Whitstone Woods!
If it rains, (Heaven Forbid!) bring a change of clothes !!!!
Tuesday 3rd April 2007    Commando Challenge 2007    Calling all Bashers with the ability to multi-task in the following 3 areas, anything more is a bonus:
Have a sense of fun
Are up for a challenge
Can raise some money for a Devon based charity
The date for this years’ Gemini FM Commando Challenge has been set for Sat 13 Oct, and the organisers are already taking entries. Charities to benefit this year are Dream-A-Way and TheElisabeth Svendsen Trust for Children and Donkeys.
I would like to enter a bash team again and run it along the same format as last year. The emphasis being on having a really good laugh and rounding off the day in true bash style with a curry or chilli and a few beers back at Diddy’s pad! If you don’t particularly want to participate but would like to come along for the important bit after, you can still give your assistance in the form of a strategically placed photographer to catch the participants in situations that one would not normally find oneself in! All for a slide show later in the day, so the more the better!
I am putting this message out early as on the challenge website (www.commandochallenge.co.uk) they say that due to a cap on the number of participants they turned down two thirds of all the entries for last year, so entries are first come first served. It would also give you plenty of time to get raising some money.
SOOOO if anyone wants to know more then please take a look at the website or ask me or anyone who took part last year, they include:
Diddy
Anna
Bobbiball
Mavis
Turbo
Mustang Sally
The only difference that I would like to make to this years’ event is to have a local bash on the Sunday after, either on Woodbury or on Haldon. (Tonto please can you reserve the date for me?)
Anyone with an interest please let Jonno know either at a Bash or by email kmj_1965@tesco.net
Thank you all
Jonno
Monday 2nd April 2007    Easter Off-Road    For those Off -Roaders who don't like chocolate easter eggs, there is another option on Sunday. A few of us plan to meet at Four Firs, Woodbury, at the usual 11am start, to play around the common for a couple of hours or so. there should be enough local knowledge to sus out some good bits, and have a couple of beers after.
Unda.
Friday 30th March 2007    Mustang wants to know all about you!

Sunday 25th March 2007    Today's Cridford Inn Ride    Thanks to Trucker, Mr Chips and the Cridford Inn for an excellent ride and "Bash Food" today. Debacle's car drove off into the distance, and his portion had to be shared among the assembled company... Yummy!

Haldon Aid Day    I am a ranger at Haldon Forest Park and we have a Aid day/sort of dig day planned for this Sunday 18th March (unfortunately it is Mothers day too) and wondered if you could pass the word around to your members? We are also hopefully going to be putting in a new route to join in to the berm section.

Tuesday 13th March 2007    Mini-Tour to France or Spain    Jonno is thinking of arranging a pannier style tour for Aug/Sep 2008, but would appreciate some indication as to whether or not there would be enough people to warrant it.
The main purpose of this would be to celebrate the birth of Binliner whose age, like all women, shall remain a closely guarded secret!
If any bashers would be interested in doing this type of riding then please let Jonno know over the coming weeks.

Saturday 24th Feb 2007    Wun wants one's money! (In a Good Cause)..... CAPE ARGUS CYCLE RACE – CAPE TOWN MARCH 11TH 2007    This is just to let you know that once again I am participating in the Cape Argus Cycle Race, 109km around the Cape Peninsula, which is being held on the 11th March.
This is my third race and last year I managed to raise £1350 (R18,000) for charity to which Jenny and I added £300 (R4000) to make a total of £1650 (R22,000).
We took some time to identify 3 separate charities to donate the funds to. Two of the charities are based in Kyamundi, a local Township near Stellenbosch. The charities support children who would otherwise struggle to get into the education system.
The third charity supports 15 Cape Coloured orphans whose current funding amounts to about £1.00 (R13) per child per day.
All the charities are small and do not have overheads that absorb funding, as many charities do. We can assure you that the additional funding that we provide does make a difference.
We much appreciated the support we received last year and would appreciate your support if it is at all possible. For our part we will commit to donating at least a further 10% on top of the donations that we receive.
If you would like to support our efforts this year please let me know and I will advise you how to donate. Alternatively you can send a cheque to our address at The Wookeys.
Regards to you all and thanks in anticipation.

Sunday 11th February 2007    A Date for your Diary    The Devon Bash Weekend is to be held at Minehead Rugby Club on the weekend starting Friday August 17th. Those of you who were at Bobbiballs Minehead weekend won't remember how good the riding was, but there is something for everyone, whether you favour road, fire-trail or bone-breaking downhill!

We now have some photos of the riding, courtesy of Duncan, on the photos page
Friday 9th February 2007    SKIING (or maybe even...cycling) IN AUSTRIA    For sale – flights to Salzburg from Exeter on 3 March Returning on 12 March. Skis are already pre-booked on both flights (but that could probably be changed to bikes!!) Accommodation is B&B in Saalfelden – (at Trotski’s house) Whole package £400 for one person but there is plenty of room for 3 more people. Excellent skiing area but also great for cycling if there is not much snow. (I cannot go now due to pressure of work) Contact Mash 07921 846422
Monday 5th February 2007    If you can remember it....you weren't there!!!    Bobbiballs minehead weekend was a spectacular success! Worried by the "Little booze available" clause on the flyer, Bashers brought copious amounts to the venue...and then eked it out by draining the local pub almost dry before they started drinking in earnest! Buktu (bless 'im) did a fantastic job of feeding us all, Aunt Sally set up a workshop in the utility area. England won a rugby match. (Sorry Duncan) There were new trails, courtesy of Timotei, V2 and Bobbiball, and the weather was perfect!!
There are photographs of some of the drinking action on the Photos page. We'll bring you some of the cycling action as soon as the pics get to us.
Monday 5th February 2007    Words February - March - April 2007    Happy New Bashing year to all in our group. You can see from the rides list there's plenty going on so hopefully plenty to look forward to.
The main tour in Lake Garda is now full and we have 40 Bashers booked to make the trip. How many other UK biking outfits could drum up such strong support?
Talking about support brings me to my next point which is all to do with attendance incentives throughout 2007. Recently we held an informal meeting in a pub after a Thursday ride and the general concensus of opinion was that we should always reward those who regularly support Bash rides and who have paid their £10 membership fee for 2006 through to July 2007. Hence the first T.I.Ts and S.H.I.Ts incentive tickets. We issued 53 Hard S.H.I.Ts, 31 Tough S.H.I.Ts, 48 Right T.I.Ts and 33 Left T.I.T.s, in addition we also gave out 23 Free Drinks Vouchers at the "Oscars 2006." So now comes my second part of this incentives scheme. If you attend any ride in February and have been given 2 T.I.Ts or S.H.I.Ts find Mudsie or myself and claim back the £5 you paid for the carvery meal @ The Welcome Inn Oscars. Remember you must attend the bash personally, you must be a fully paid up Basher, and you must claim your £5 on or before Sunday 25 February as no claims will be honoured after this date. Once again these conditions are non-negotiable.
Finally I would ask that any Basher who has joined the group in the last 2 or 3 years check that we have their full proper name and address and phone numbers, email address etc. These details should be given to myself, Manky, Mudsie or Mustang Sally. This situation was highlighted at the awards when a Basher operating under the name of Duncan from Bovey was voted winner of the most promising male newcomer. We had 70 people in the room for the awards and nobody seemed to know anything about his surname or contact details. So once again please come forward to make our job that much easier.
We now have 93 paid up Bashers (how many other cycling outfits are this big?) thanks to the efforts of Mustang Sally and it would be nice if we had them all on our current membership list. Talking about members it's sad to hear that our second eldest Basher - Captain Ahab - is not well and I know that you will join me in wishing him a speedy recovery and a return to Bash riding asap.
Please note that the current T.I.Ts and S.H.I.Ts incentive has now finished out intention is to start another scheme to reward the faithful.
On on
Pottsie
Wednesday 31st Jan 2007    Words from The Adjutant    A BIG "thank you" is due to our leader, mentor, CO and ageing biker, Pottsie, for the huge amount of time and effort he put into the Christmas party, and the awards ceremony.
Both were big hits, apart from a couple of hiccups, but it doesn't just happen.
It takes a lot of organising to make sure everything is all right on the day, and not many members realise the work involved.
The new venue for the Xmas bash, the Abbrook social club at Kingsteignton, worked quite well. It may not have suited everybody, but the 'committee' has for some time been urging members to suggest suitable locations.
Quite a stringent criteria has to be met, especially on price, so if anybody has any ideas and is willing to do the work, let's hear from you.
Our default venue this year will probably be back to the Starcross Cruising and Fishing Club - unless something better comes forward.
The burned custard at Abbrook was not to everybody's taste. And guess who moaned loudly, but still managed to wolf down seconds?
The fancy dress jaunt through Newton Abbot also made headlines in the local weekly tabloid, along the lines of 'Drunken ride of shame', referring to the impromptu pedal through the aisles of Asda by a few 'high spirited' members full of Xmas spirit - you know who you are!
Still, no damage or arrests! And congrats to all those who made the effort to produce some original and hilarious outfits. Newton Abbot knew we were around.

Pottsie and his team did another brilliant job for the Oscars at the Welcome, Dawlish Warren.
The CO was on top form and gave one of his best performances yet - watch out RJ.
