Tues 20th Dec 2011    Xmas Bash
Xmas Bash 2011
Thanks to Unda for sending us a photo of the Bash all dressed up last Sunday. We've got a few pics for the photos page, but would like some if you have any....could you send a couple to for the website? Thanks all!
A Very Happy Christmas and New Year to Everyone.
Thurs 15th Dec 2011    Fancy Dress Bash Sunday. A Message from Pottsie.    We have negotiated parking without special tickets for both Sunday & Monday @ SF&CC. However, space is limited and some of you will need to park up elsewhere. There is a very large parking area off Generals Lane & Teignbridge Car Parks are free on Sundays. ALL Bashers are welcome to take part in the ride..... BUT ONLY THOSE WHO HAVE PAID US £10 WILL BE ABLE TO HAVE THE ROAST LUNCH!!
As usual we will start with a Hot Mulled Wine Stirrup (pedal) Cup which will be served from 10:30am. There will also be some special entertainment that has been organised by Tonto. Prior to the off we will also ask you to pose for a group photo (hopefully someone will bring a suitable camera). Then.... We plan to ride to Dawlish Warren where you will be able to partake of sherry & mince pies. (soft drinks also available). After this we will ride to Dawlish via the cycle path. In Dawlish we will go down to the Viaduct on the sea front & regroup. Then we will ride round Tucks Plot, up Brunswick Place following the road round to Queen street, then up the hill to Braking Wind Cycles for another Photo shoot before we go into the Lansdowne for drinks, roasties & singing. Jack is asked to lead the singing. Please join in and support him. Bikes can be parked in the alley behind the pub. This area is covered by CTC (sic) but it may be wise to lock valuable machines. We should be able to enter the pub via the back door. We leave the Lansdowne soon after 1pm. THEN please regroup at the Bandstand for more entertainment & singing before we ride back to Starcross together. We plan to get back to The SF &CC by 2pm. Food will be served @ 2:30. Once again I remind you that drink in the club is VERY MUCH CHEAPER than in the pubs so that's the best place to spend most of your money in these hard times.
Please note that all this is weather dependant hopefully it will be dry~ but probably cold.
Finally Fancy dress isn't totally Mandatory so even if you're a "sad bastard" you can still ride with us.
See you on Sunday

He is currently negotiating new design Bash Tops~ long sleeve & short. It- just maybe-even possible for him to personalize them in some ways in keeping with your regiment's speciality e.g. Head bangers/Green Badger Racing or Tarmac types/ F.A.R.T s. Anyway whatever you can do to help & support him would be appreciated~in particular ORDER & BUY the shirts as & when he starts to sell them.
Ride On Pottsie
Volunteers required for exploratory mission.
Hi All Headbangers & Green Badger soldiers.
This Sunday my road ride is from the Exeter Inn ,Clyst Honiton, I think you will be meeting @ 4 firs Woodbury but have any of you ever tried riding in Ashclyst Forest, White Down Copse, or Paradise Copse ?? which are areas that we will go through on Tarmac. They look promising to me..... perhaps a couple of you might care to go up there & do a bit of recconnaissance with an eye for future rides in this area. If you turn up @ the Exeter Inn I can supply you with maps if any one is interested in this project. I fully accept that you may already know about this & have rejected it as unsuitable. I see it as a change from Woodbury
Ride On Pottsie Off-roaders. Batman's ride from Bovey Tracey November 2011
Sat 5th Nov 2011    Xmas Bash details    By a substantial majority Pedal Bashers have voted for the Starcross Fishing and Cruising Club as the venue for our Christmas Celebrations on Sunday 18th December.
The exact timings & route for the Fancy Dress Ride (Theme as before i.e " Anything Goes") have yet to be finalised ~ in the hope that we maybe able to come up with something a bit different,~ any ideas, suggestions or help would be appreciated. BUT remember we have Bashers in fancy dress plus their bikes and cars and the Weather to consider and we need to be back @ Starcross for 2pm latest as our meal will be served @2:30pm.
So this is the outline plan at this moment in time:-
Meet @ SF&CC prior to 11am for "stirrup cup" & photos. Mass ride to Dawlish starts soon after 11am. Sherry & Mince Pie stop probably at Sandy lane Car Park. Then via a high visibility route we will go on to the Lansdowne for Roasties & Carols and of course Beer.(Bikes to be parked at the rear of the pub) We leave the pub @ 12:45 approx. Stop for more singing at the Bandstand before we ride back to Starcross maybe stopping @ the ship on the way. However please remember that Booze is very much cheaper at the club so that's where its sensible to drink most.
Back at club you will have a 2 course Roast Beef lunch (veg options too). We will be served seated in the function room. After the meal we will return to the Bar for dancing to "Lite the Fuse" guitar/vocal duo.
If past experience is anything to go by, we will finish at about 7pm.
The total cost of this event is £12:50, - But Fully Paid Up Bashers will be able to buy their tickets for only £10. We can only seat 80 so your payment will be given a number (and as we now have over 100 F.P.U.B's) its definitely a good move to book your place at this very popular venue ASAP. Pottsie, Poppy Or Stickie will take your money. Cheques should be made out to ~ Teign Valley Pedal Bashers ~ and IF POSTED - send to Stickie Dickie at his home address.

Ride On - Pottsie

P.S. Should this event be oversubsribed with F.P.U.B's, then those who fail to get a meal place will not lose out entirely, as they will be offered a Free Drink as compensation.

Fri 28th Oct 2011    Red Thai Night    Thanks to all those who came along. Hope you all enjoyed the food and the evenings entertainment. In fact, 48 Bashers paid me so I ordered food & paid for 48. Unfortunately, only 41 turned up on the night, - BUT - had the 7 absentees told me 24 hrs beforehand, I could have adjusted our order and would have been able to reimburse them. I now plan to hold another Red Thai night on Thurs 15th or 22nd March 2012 dependent on the level of support I receive - further details in January. It will be even better then, especially if more Bashers are "REDDY" for it!

Friday 30th Sept 2011    Sad News    It is with great sadness that I have the painful duty to inform you that Michael "Father" Wareham has passed away.
I think that the majority of Bashers knew that in the early hours of Saturday the 3rd of September Mike suffered a stoke. He had been on a cycle ride with Geoff on the Friday morning, his last ride. He was admitted to the R.D.& E. - but unfortunately his recovery was hampered by an infection and subsequent blood poisoning which proved difficult to overcome. Hence he had a see-saw of getting a little better one day, only to slide back the next.
The strain of all this eventually took its toll and this led to a heart attack. He was now very weak and vulnerable, any improvements in his condition were short lived, and there was little else that be could done for him other than to make him comfortable, free of any stress or pain, and wait for the inevitable. This came to pass in the early hours of Friday morning.
Mike was a founder member of TVPB. Our oldest Basher yet still more active than many much younger.
He was a personal friend of long standing and I will miss him terribly - BUT - I will never ever forget him or the times we spent together. It was Mike who reincarnated my boyhood interest in cycling when he sold me a bike and we started riding together.
His incredible physical strength and energy coupled with his commitment, enthusiasm and interest in leading an active life was an example to myself and so many others, showing that you don't ever have to stop doing the the things you enjoy as you age. He was, and always will be, unique and special, and our thoughts and sympathy are also directed to Ann "Mudsie", his children Sarah, Louise and Andrew, and all of his family at this very sad time.
Further details will be published as and when they are available in accordance with their wishes.
Tues 27th Sept 2011    HEADBANGERS 1. MILLIONAIRES 6. (Match report by our sports correspondent....Unda)    ALWAYS thought that off roading was safer than riding on tarmac?
Then two recent tours proved it.
The mountain biking weekend in the Forest of Dean, courtesy of Juicy, Spoons and Ken the Rave, produced only one casualty, but the millionaires Cotswold tour seemed to result in carnage!
Over 20 sampled the forest delights based at a farm campsite in Coleford, and the forest trails delivered three great rides - swoopy single track, steep downhills and strenuous cross country.
But disaster struck on the Saturday - after only a mile, Deb's shoulder came into heavy contact with a tree. Luckily Bothways was on hand to take charge of the situation with her expert medical knowledge, and a painful dislocation was diagnosed.
It meant a long walk to the nearest road for the casualty - no chance of an ambulance or chopper making it deep into the woods - assisted by fellow bashers, and a trip to A & E.
But the millionaires on their jaunt along the roads and lanes, notched up a much higher attrition rate - about half a dozen 'incidents', depending who you listen to.
Bikes were reported to have collided with the rear of a white van, riders crashed into each other and Blaster was attacked by an angry insect, leaving his features even less pretty than usual.
A lack of concentration, fatigue and GPS devices dislodging from handlebars onto the road, were blamed for the mayhem.
Apart from that, the wealthy section of the bash reported another jolly jaunt, with accommodation and cuisine up to the expected high standard! Flipflop after surgery
The Millionaires Whoopsy Daisy Tour 2011
12th Millionaires Tour and the Bash "Wealthies" (Hah, thats a good un) hit the Cotswolds for RJ's annual bike-booze-fest.
Lordy Rich know how to have a good time when they want, and if it means kissing tarmac and banging into a few things well, fall about - do it in spades!
The pics don't show Mr & Mrs QuarrySome come to grief & get red credded, or Big Oops, White Van Man and Lord of the Garmin's - to much delight & merriment, enter Bash immortality with a full-on head butt to an inoffensive parked campervan... Its ok though - the van is fine.
All spent out,
S t r e t c h (Ride Hon)
Tues 27th Sept 2011    Debacle performs successful surgery!!    Rubber's ride from East Prawle this weekend provided Debacle with an opportunity to perform surgery on Flash's Flipflop, which had broken when Flash pulled his foot from some particularly sticky mud. Sutures were performed using only a multitool and a cable tie, and Flash was able to complete the ride. See pic.
Spderman's Austria tour....Pics available
The Bash alpine division went on manoeuvres in Austria earlier this month, led by Spiderman. A very good time (and lots of strudel washed down with wheat beer) was had by all, and a full report will appear in the next edition of Birdseye. Meanwhile, you can see some of the pics by clicking the link on the Photos page. (Apologies, these are just Manky's pics but will try to get discs from Soapy, Debacle, Spiderman and Bobbiball soon.)
Red Thai Curry Night
Provided there is enough support! We plan to hold a Red Tie Bash on Thursday 27th October from The Lansdown, Park Rd,Dawlish.

David & Andy Barton Know that most Bashers have healthy appetites so please be assured there will be plenty of good "Bash Nosh" to eat plus inexpensive real ales & wine.
The pub can only cater for 50 Bashers Top Whack- SO- if you want to come to the RED TIE BASH get your name on the list- and hand over your £5 to Poppy, Pottsie or Stickie A.S.A.P. You will of course be expected to sport a red tie in keeping with the theme .Please Note NO TICKETS WILL BE SOLD ON THE NIGHT & Fully Paid Up Bashers will get priority.
However it would be appreciated if Bashers could also email me if they intend coming so I can get a quick idea of the level support we might expect.

Fri 2nd Sept 2011    New Cycle Path Open on Exe Estuary.    Bashers helped to unofficially open a new stretch of the Exe estuary cycle path, between Cockwood and Dawlish Warren. It cost the county council about £500,000, and takes cyclists, walkers and horse riders off a busy and narrow road that is full of fast traffic, especially in the summer.
They joined the local county councillor John Clatworthy and other users in celebrating the opening over the Bank Holiday, and Pottsie gave his traditional blast on the horn.
Now it is hoped the county council will concentrate on the vital missing link between Turf and Powderham, which has been delayed over negotiations with the landowner, Lord Devon, about the route and the design of a new bridge across the railway line.
Pottsie told the press that he realised that some 'serious' cyclists would still stick to the road, but the new path would encourage many more families with children to get out on their bikes, away from dangerous traffic.'

Sat 13th Aug 2011    Express and Echo today...."Hello" magazine tomorrow!!!!    Bashers made it onto Page 3! OK, it was only the Express & Echo, but the bash 'table' generously loaded with booze and gourmet grub, was the only one singled out by the Echo snapper from the 3000 or so picknickers who thronged to the Jools Holland open air gig at Powderham Castle. A few wined, dined and jigged too well, and there was many a stumble on the way back to the car park. And it was probably just coincidence, but just after this piece appeared, the Echo announced its demise as a daily rag!
And another bit of news...
Dave Scotcher set a ride from the Atmospheric Railway on Thursday....and has been named "Mullet" (on account of his flowing locks.....) Welcome Mullet!! Bashers afloat!
Tues 9th Aug 2011    Boat Bash    Seventy intrepid bashers took a sea cruise - across the Exe. They boarded the good ship My Queen at Starcross, which took a leisurely route over the estuary for embarkation at Exmouth. Luckily there were no reports of seasickness, and passengers and bikes were landed safely, despite fears by the skipper that the pontoon might not be sturdy enough for the combined weight of bashers and their steeds. The invasion force quickly broke out from the beach head, to progress along the new Exe cycle trail with beer stops all the way back to the fishing and cruising club, for a feast of typical healthy bash grub prepared by Poppy and Bedpig, washed down by beer at £1.80 a pint or less, and a bottle of wine around £5. How much! Even better, the voyage and nosh was all free to paid up members! Who said £10 a year wasn't good value?
Mon 18th Jul 2011    New Edition of Birdseye    Bothways has, almost singlehandedly, produced another edition of Birdseye for our delectation!!! Click on the Birdseye link at the top of this page and select "Birdseye14" to see!!
Bobbiball's Olympic weekend 2012
We all look forward to Bobbiball's weekend...the drink...the fights...the sex....and that's just when we're packing our bags!!!! This year we've managed to book a Youth Hostel in the Forest of Dean...with great riding and wonderful scenery. See the flyer Here. Book early to avoid disappointment...this year's weekend is likely to be very popular!!!!
Bronco Pic
For those of you who haven't met the newly christened named "Bronco"'s a photo. All we could obtain was this vague, disembodied image which made us wonder if it's possible to see his reflection.... Newly Named....Bronco!
Fri 15th Jul 2011    Bash Naming!!!    After another raucous christening, which, yet again saw the rather dubious "Barabbas" method being employed by the mutinous mob to choose a name. Thus rejecting the "Bash Handles" originally selected by the C.O. and his assistant Flossie. So...... Andrew Nichol will now be known as BRONCO. WHY??? Well..... Pottsie, in his naming address to the troops, mentioned the name ANDREX. They liked it!! and so from DIME, he eventually ended up with Bronco. It does of course, sit well with his friend Beano. We now have a Bronco to go with a Beano, it seems somehow to scan very nicely....
Wed 6th Jul 2011    New Scout Mistress appointed. A message from Pottsie    Tripee has resigned his position as Scout Master. Tonto has voluteered to take on this difficult and, so often, frustrating job. May I take this opportunity to thank Tripee for his past efforts in this demanding role. Please give Our new Scout Mistress all the help you can to try and make the job easier for her. Thankyou .
Update for Sunday's ride
Unfortunately Snakebite has gone on sick leave so he and Dusty will not be able to do the "off road" trail this coming sunday (10th July), but Blowtorch has stepped into the breach and will lead an offroad ride from 4 Firs car park at 11am If you want to join the tarmac gang for Roasties then get to the Exeter Inn Clyst Honiton (on old A30 nr Exeter Airport) for 14:00 hrs. Obviously it would help if you could let Pottsie know how many of you intend coming along so that there is enough food for the assembled throng. Please phone Pottsie on 07425136042 B4 Midday.
4th Jul 2011    A message from Curley and Barney!!!!!    I hope all is well with you all. Barrie has just retired at almost 66 and will now be able to enjoy his cycling. Our cycling club is going from strength to strength...Link to follow soon. If you fancy visiting the area, click on the link to see details of our Holiday Casita in Spain or email us at : We have very good cycling here, with many roads and tracks with very little or no traffic. If you want remote cycling it would be necessary to obtain a military map, as much of the area is not on a basic map.
Update on Muddsie's fall
Poor Muddsie is still out of action after her fall in mid-may...It turned out that that she had cracked a bone in her pelvis and is making her way around on crutches at the moment, but we hope to see her out and about again soon.
Tues 21st Jun 2011    Update for ride on 26th June. A message from Tonto.    Greetings Bashers, Please note there is a change of venue for Sunday 26th June. The ride will now be from The Butcher's Arms, Abbotskerswell. Not The Court Farm Inn. L+H Tonto Newly Named....Flappy!
Mon 20th Jun 2011    Forest of Dean camping weekend booked for 9th to 11th Sept 2011    Lucy and Spoons have sent us a flyer for the Forest of Dean Weekend in September. New campsite...great riding (some on the dark side of the river) and, of course, the possibility that you may come face-to-tusk with a wild boar. More details to follow, but let Lucy and Spoons know if you're intending to go so they can let the campsite have an idea of numbers
Sun 19th Jun 2011    Lin has a new name!    Lin Proctor set her first bash ride today....and, in time honoured tradition, she was given a Bash name. Pottsie wasn't able to be there, so Blaster did the honours and asked the Bash to show their approval for various names by a "clapometer" vote. The name which drew the biggest round of applause was Sturmey Archer's suggestion of "Jack Flaps" which was shortened to just "Flappy" (Don't ask!)
Mon 13th Jun 2011    Birdseye Lives!! Your chance to have a bit of fun.....    All bashers, I will be writing the next issue of birdseye in 3 weeks, If anyone has any write ups (or pictures) to be included would they please email them to bothways at as soon as possible. (please use Birdseye as the subject heading)
many thanks
Sun 5th Jun 2011    Cheddar Weekend    Another good turnout for this year's Cheddar weekend. Over 30 riders off-road, plus a few road riders too. Great trails as usual. The weather smiled on us for Saturday's 40k plus ride, but the morning after brought wind and rain....Only a few brave souls ventured out for the Sunday ride. Much drink was taken in true bash can be seen from the photos of the aftermath on the campsite....See the photos page.

We've managed to compile a selection of photos from this year's Dinky tour too! Stonewall contemplates the next big climb on Saturday's ride at Cheddar
Tues 31st May 2011    Ride on Sunday 5th June    On Sunday 5th June Blaster has very kindly agreed to organise a ride for those not going to Cheddar, it will be from Greenawell Park Farm, Ogwell @ 11am
Sun 29th May 2011    Ride from the Butchers Arms at Abbotskerswell on Sun 19th Jun    This will be Lin's inaugural ride.....Pottsie sends his apologies as he won't be there to name her, but Blaster will be the Officer in Charge....and has a number of possible names in mind!!! Bashers who turn up for the ride will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite name.....(God help the poor girl!). So make a note in your diaries or PDA's. See you there!
Sat 21st May 2011    Bash Avec Bateau Sun 31st July    To celebrate the collection of the "Bash Tax", we are planning a Boat Bash starting from Starcross Peir @ 10:45am Sharp on Sunday 31st July. Our voyage will take us & our bikes across the Exe to Exmouth, from whence we will circumnavigate the estuary by bike, back to Starcross, hopefully ending up @ the S.F.C.C. for inexpensive drinks & Bash Snacks. IF you've paid your Tax then the boat trip will be FREE. ALL others & guests will have to pay £5. Ideally we need about 50 "fully paid up" Bashers to make it viable. So if you're interested, pay your Tax now and get your name on the Boarding List A.S.A.P. - and let's hope it's Hot & Sunny.
Ride on Sun 10th July...Volunteer wanted to lead Off-road.
Ride from Exeter Inn , Clyst Honiton. (nr Exeter Airport on old A30 road). Plenty of parking. Roasties after the ride which will be all Tarmac. Distances Ranging from 18 to 27 miles of easy cycling mostly on those lovely traffic free East Devon lanes and will also feature crossing the new cycle bridge over the M5. Perhaps someone could devise an "off road" route using areas like Stoke Woods, Huxham Brake, Danes Wood, Kilerton Park, Ashclyst Forest, White Down Copse etc etc. or maybe using Haldon and meeting up with us "roadies" in the pub for say 2 o'clock. Whatever please let me know so that I can arrange food.
Ride On. Pottsie
Mudsie Comes a Cropper
I am sorry To announce that Mudsie (Ann Wareham) our much loved senior lady rider had a "falling off" on her way back home from the Castle on Thursday night. Fortunately nothing's broken but she's badly bruised & very sore & sorry. Needless to say she will probably be out of action for 2/3 weeks dependent on how quickly she mends. The accident happened going down Teignmouth Hill,Dawlish. Her front light fell off went under her wheel and as a result the bike slid from under her. Fortunately she wasn't going very fast and no vehicles were involved.
Pottsie Civilised whisky tasting session on Dinky Century Tour
Wed 18th May 2011    100 percent survival rate on Dinky Century Tour!!!    Pleased to be able to report that there were no losses on this years Dinky Tour....In the words of Brian Hanrahan "I counted them out and I counted them all back in again". It was a tough campaign, but the seasoned legs and livers of the tour party took the cycling and the drinking in their stride. It must have been the best fed campaign ever. Our resident culinary genius Buktu, was joined this year by a tour virgin, Hank, and between them, they conjured up the kind of nosh that most hungry off-roaders can only dream about! There was culture too....Some time was spent discussing the subtle differences in flavour between various single malt whiskies...see pic! And there was cycling....At times it seemed that the satellite guidance had let us down....but you've got to hand it to Dandy...he found some fantastic trails in places where mere mortals would have fear'd to tread!!
Pics to follow soon...
Tax Returns Due!
Now is the time that we need to collect the "Bash Tax" for our next financial year. Please be assured that TVPB cannot run on fresh air alone so there is a need for us to collect a tax to offset our expenditure. Despite the rise in the R.P.I the C.P.I. and V.A.T we have, by prudent management, been able to set the Tax, yet again, at a measly £10. If we don't use it all then we will, as in previous years, use any surplus to subsidise Bash Special Events.
This year we have devised a Tax Return the purpose of which is twofold.
a) It will enable us to keep a record of what we have received & from whom.
b) We would also like to update the information we have about individual Bashers. It is a fact that many of the people who ride with TVPB are only known by their Bash Name and little else. So, if we have this detail it will enable us to communicate much more efficiently, effectively and speedily to everyone. Hopefully you will be able to co-operate by completing this section of the return.
We will, from now on, be handing out Tax Returns at Bash rides. You can also download the form by clicking here and print your own copy.
Thanking you all in anticipation.

Wed 4th May    Tomorrow's ride from the Coaching House at Chudleigh    We are repeating our Bash Ride ~No 2 this Thursday from The Coaching House Chudleigh. It was a more demanding route than Ride No 1 and was not timed or measured. It's probably 22 miles and will take the slower "elite bashers" 1hr 45mins plus so you may need lights for the finish. There will be a shorter route for the "Aged&Wimps" and both routes will join together at the Teign House Inn,which will be the "Sadlers Well" (thats what we used to call Pub Stops). However, there won't be a lot of time for drinking as we will need to be back at Chudleigh for 9pm latest. Trucker says the pub has still got a large car park which will be opened for us on the night. It is essential that you leave promptly @ 7pm or before if you plan to prove that you're as good ,or even better now, than our "Founder Members" were then!! Maps will be provided.
Ride On Pottsie
2011 Cheddar Weekend
Timotei's put a flyer together for this year's Cheddar weekend (3rd to 5th of June) which you can see here. If you're going, could you let Timotei know so he has an idea of numbers. (Contact details on the flyer.)
Sun 1st May 2011    Ride on Sun 15th May    Pottsie is organising a road ride Sunday 15th May from the Exeter Inn, London Rd, Clyst Honiton, EX5 2NJ (on the old A30 road) but there is no off-road ride organised. The off-roaders may like to meet for a ride on Woodbury....If anyone would like to suggest a meeting place, please let Manky know, so the details can be added to the rides list Start of the 18th aniversary ride from the Sandygate Inn at Kingsteignton
Fri 30th Apr 2011    Dandy and Pisspot lead field of 18th Aniversary ride.    Lovely evening for a repeat run (Held on Thurs 29th Apr) of our very first Bash Ride. I know we had at least 37 riders...brilliant, considering we lost so many regular Bashers to the rugby club event.
Great that 9 of our founder members were with us. Farther, Mudsie, Unda, Poppy, Twiggy, Shortie, Bigfoot, Pottsie & Cobbler who made a special effort to be there too.
As for the timed ride of the exact original route, at least 15 did it inside Pottsie's 1hour 41 min 54 secs. First in were Pottsie jnr (pisspot) & Dandy timed @ 1hour 18min 7secs folowed by Joystick @1:19:22. Then Bagpuss & Wendy Urban (1st lady rider) @1:24:20. Beano was next 1:25:30 followed by Dave Long, Richard Powell & Flying Pig 1:26:17. First founder member home was Unda who clocked 1:26:50 along with Licker & Vinyl. Manky, Aunt Sally & Bobbiball managed 1:39:28. Well Done!
Final point to make here is that to the best of my Knowledge 6 of the first 15 are in fact "casual members" hopefully they will all take up a full subscription membership soon, and join us on a regular basis. After all its only a measly £10 p.a.!! So, as Race Director I say that the best performances came from:

1) Dandy & Unda, because of time taken relative to their age
2) Wendy, cos she was the fastest female.
3) Flying Pig, best young rider
4) Beano, for proving veggies ain't all J. Arthurs.
Pillocks Prize must be shared between Night Light & Jelli who managed to make a complete "Bobbiballs Up" of the ride.

Finally, thanks to everyone who took part. On On to next year when we will do it all again and give you a chance to redeem yourselves. Please also note that next week we aim to Ride No 2 again and Ride No 3 will be repeated the following week. This should give you the chance to prove that you are just as good or even better than the founder members.

Tues 25th Apr 2011    A message from Bin-Bag-Bob re: ride from Holly Tree Inn Sun 1st May 2011    On Sunday the 1st there are celebrations for the Exeter/Exmouth Railway (150 years). Thought I would incorporate on the ride. A special train arrives at Exmouth at 11:23hrs, would like to see the arrival so need to get away from the ‘HT’ smartish at 11:00hrs. There is also a transport fair in the Strand Gardens and a beer festival at the ‘Swan’ so could be interesting.

Fri 15th Apr 2011    Update on RJ's ride from Newton Abbot Rugby Club    For those of you who like to take life easy, and those of you who want to make sure that you get back from the ride in good time for the start of the Cider Festival on 22nd May.......RJ is organising an additional special short road ride. So...nice short ride...shower...squeeze into the little black dress....and ready to party!!!
Mon 11th Apr 2011    No Debacle!    Many thanks to Debacle for not turning up for his ride yesterday....It was a shame not to have his company and we hope his hand gets better soon....... but the weather was FANTASTIC! All the wet weather gear we packed for Debacle's ride was left in our cars. Sunblock was the order of the day. Mayhem stepped in to lead a great ride from the Fox and Hounds, rounded off by a cool pint and some sausages and chips....heaven! Pic courtesy of Blowtorch. Great ride on a lovely day from the Fox and Hounds at Bridestowe
Fri 8th Apr 2011    Two messages from Blowtorch: Firstly...The Devon Dirt Ride.    The Devon Dirt ride (Organised by CTC and BigPeaks) takes place on 17th April. Any Bashers interested in taking part, see the website at
Secondly...Fancy a weekend in Wales?
29th April - Cwm Carn xc. (A few of us are booked in for the downhill), then over to Afan camping at Glencorrig that night.
30th & 1st - (Afan xc camping at glencorrig.)
Campsite details below for booking.
The Glencorrig campsite near Afan is 01639 851900. £5 per person per night (includes hookup).
Tues 5th Apr 2011    A message from Pottsie....It's not a race....Honest!    I am concerned that the 18th birthday bash (Thursday ride 28th April) may be seen just as a "time trial". I'd like to emphasise that participation in a timed ride is NOT MANDATORY. Bashers are, as usual, welcome to tackle the route as they see fit, to give them maximum enjoyment. What I really hope for is lots of bashers riding on the night with plenty of them coming back to the pub to mark the occasion.

Tues 29th Mar 2011    A Message from Simple Re Nash Bash 2012    Alice is bored sitting on the riverbank with her sister, when she notices a talking, clothed White Rabbit with a pocket watch cycle past. She follows it down a rabbit hole when suddenly she falls a long way to a curious hall with many circles of flour. She finds a small blob of flour near to a door too small for her to fit, but through which she sees an attractive garden. She then discovers a bottle labelled "DRINK ME" and then it all goes to rat shit.

It begins now.

Sun 27th Mar 2011    Change of plan for Debacle's Weekend at The Fox and Hounds, Sourton. 8th - 10th April    Unfortunately, there are not enough signed up bashers to make it worth while booking the Skittle Alley/Meal deal for the weekend. We're still going to have a normal bash Sunday ride from the Fox and Hounds, and camping is still available at the pub for those who want to book on their own account, but the Saturday ride, and the skittles evening is cancelled. Good to have a Resident Medic! Nasty fall, but it turned out that there were no bones broken.
Sun 20th Mar 2011    Manaton Ride    Thanks to Mash and Stonewall for organising the rides today. Debacle took a tumble on a bit of techy descent and damaged his nose and hand, but we hear that there are no bones broken and he'll be as handsome as ever when the swelling goes down! Mayhem has sent us a few pics from her phone which you can see on the photos page.
Volunteer wanted for 3rd April
Pottsie is setting a road ride from the Maltsters Arms at Woodbury on the 3rd April, but would like someone to lead a ride for the off-roaders. Can you help?
Wed 16th Mar 2011    For the mechanically minded.....    Thought this info on tyre sizes may be of interest to bashers, for setting up bike computers and identifying possible alternative sizes...especially on road bikes. On On. Aunt Sall !!
Tues 15th Mar 2011    Rotary Club Charity Event on Haldon    Mark Macnair is helping to organise a Charity Cycling Event on Haldon on April 10 for the Chudleigh and Bovey Tracey Rotary Club.
He has attached a flyer advertising the event.
He notes that the club normally meets on a Sunday, and he wonders if we might be interested in taking part in their event that day. Also, he notes our attachment to pubs - He would have come to talk to us about it a couple of weeks ago when we were in the Bishop Lacey, but he was in Liverpool cuddling his new grandchild! He says they have a special category in this event for Pub Teams - with a barrel of beer the prize for the top team! (this is a subject close to the hearts of all bashers)
He wonders if we could circulate all the members of our club with this information. He thinks it would be great if some or all of us could take part! More information or further details available from their club site ( or from the event site (
He signs off with many thanks from the Chudleigh& Bovey Tracey Rotary Club.

It's so nice when we get such nice polite emails........reminds me of my youth.....
Wed 9th Mar 2011    Update on Debacle's Weekend at The Fox and Hounds, Sourton. 8th - 10th April    Should be a great weekend...two days of Dartmoor trails and camping available for £2 per person per night. Debacle has organised a deal for a "Desperate Dan pie and chips" PLUS use of the skittle alley on the Saturday night for £7.50.
The pub need to have some idea of numbers though, so could you email Debacle and let him know you're coming...Do it now before you forget!!!
Sat 5th Mar 2011    New Edition of Birdseye!    Bothways has been poorly for a couple of weeks and has not been out cycling....but she has been putting her enforced leisure time to good use....compiling the latest edition of Birdseye....close to the edge as always...with lots of gossip and pics....."Hello" magazine look out!!! Click the link above or go to the Birdseye tab at the top of this page and select Birdseye edition 13 to see.
Happily. Bothways is feeling better now and is doing some short rides before building up to the point where she leaves us mere mortals in her vapour trail.......
All the best Anna. Ed

Also, Debacle is organising a camping weekend at the Fox and Hounds Sourton on the 8th - 10th April. Off-road rides on Saturday and Sunday. Pasties and chips (There will be a veggie option) will be available. Skittles on Saturday night. Campsite £3/night (Don't know whether this is per person or per tent) If you want to make enquiries, please email Debacle or call 01822 820206 and speak to Dave, the landlord of the pub . Please let Debacle know if you are going to be staying at the Fox and Hounds over the weekend so he can give the pub an indication of numbers.

Details later but the usual format. Already have 20+ names from last year!
BBB aka BB Mudsie at Corfe. Bobbiball's Swanage weekend Feb 2011
Tues 8th Feb 2011    Bobbiball's Weekend at Unda. "our Roving Reporter"    WHAT a perfect bash weekend.
Challenging rides against the elements, five star accommodation, top nosh, copious amounts of booze, good company, watching England stuff Wales on the telly, and a real bonus - a heated exchange of views with locals in a pub. Bobbiball's annual get-together, this year at Swanage, had it all, and the 50 plus who were there rated it the 'best ever'.
What will probably stick in the mind for most was the wind. Boy did it blow, especially for the off roaders on a 600 feet ridge. We learned a new technique - riding at a 45 degree angle head on into a gale and driving rain, and trying in vain to maintain a reasonably straight line. Bikes were blown over, and it was a struggle to keep gates open, even with two people. The roadies were in even more danger as riders were hurled across roads, with much screaming and sheer terror.
A Saturday night visit to the boozer proved eventful. Can't say too much on the 'what happens on tour stays on tour' rule, but the sight of one of our more 'respectable' members shouting 'fuck off, fuck off, fuck off,' in the face of a drunk who nicked his beer, will go down in bash legend. He was asked to leave, but later re-admitted after a case of mistaken identity over an incident involving a beer glass.
What fun!
An eventful and memorable tour, and full credit to Bothways and Lee for months of work to make it happen; Bucktu for his culinary skills, and Dusty and Snakebite for all the research and time they put into planning the off-road routes. Phil and Caroline at the Royal Oak, Ideford
Mon 7th Feb 2011    Share your Swanage Weekend photos....Please!!!    We're trying to put together a good selection of photos from last weekend......If you have any pics (or CCTV footage), It would be much appreciated if you would send a few to Manky so we can put 'em on the website. Any pics from the road riders would be especially welcome 'coz we don't have any at all yet! Thanks chaps!!

(We already have some pics of the offroad rides from Dandy which you can see on the photos page)
Fri 4th Feb 2011    Best Bash Pub Award    Congratulations to Caroline and Phil for scooping the "Best Bash Pub" award for the Royal Oak at Ideford which was presented to them last night. Photo courtesy of Dandy.
